Adding a Password to Your SecureSafe

This guide will take you through the process of adding a password to your SecureSafe manually, as well as generating strong passwords using SecureSafe's password generator.

Please follow the steps outlined below to add a password to your SecureSafe password manager.

Please note: The images used in this guide stem from the SecureSafe web application interface. If you are adding a password using a different interface, some menus might differ slightly.

  1. Log in to your SecureSafe account.
  2. From the menu in the left sidebar, select Passwords.
    Within the Passwords category panel, click "Add Password" to add a new password to your SecureSafe.
  3. From the Passwords category panel, click Add password.
  4. In the Add password window resulting from this, populate the fields accordingly. Start with adding a name for your password in the Title field.

  5. Next, add the web address of the relevant login page you want to add a password for into the Website (login) field. Alternatively, you can paste a copied web address into this field.
  6. Add your username into the Username field. This is the username that is associated with the login page defined in the previous step.
  7. In order to add a Password to this login record, you can either create a password yourself (a.), or generate a password (b., c.), using the integrated SecureSafe password generator:
    1. Type a strong password into the Password field.
    2. Or, generate a random password by performing the following actions:
      Optionally, SecureSafe generates a strong, random password for you.
      1. Click Generate password. In the window that displays, select the Random password generation type.
      2. View the random password that was created by the generator.
      3. By clicking the refresh button, you can generate a new random password, should you wish to do so.
      4. The password Strength indicator will allow you to ensure that the password created in the previous steps is strong.
      5. The length slider allows you to lengthen the generated password to any length up to 32 characters long.
      6. Optionally, to customize your generated password, you can select and unselect the following elements:
        • lowercase only
        • use special characters
        • use numbers
      7. Confirm by clicking Done.
    3. Or, generate a memorizable password by performing the following actions:
      Optionally, SecureSafe creates a strong, memorizable password for you.
      1. Click Generate password. In the window that displays, select the Memorizable password generation type.
      2. View the memorizable password that was created by the generator.
      3. By clicking the refresh button, you can generate a new memorizable password, should you wish to do so.
      4. The password Strength indicator will allow you to ensure that the password created in the previous steps is strong.
      5. Confirm by clicking Done.
  8. Reveal or hide your entered or generated password by clicking this toggle switch.

  10. Optionally, you can add your password to a password category by either:
    • choosing an existing category,
    • or creating a new password category by clicking the Add category button. This option displays a window containing a single field, which you please populate with the name for your new category.
  11. The Comment field allows you to optionally add a comment about your password.
  12. Confirm by clicking Done.
