Moving Private Safe Date SecureSafe Classic to SecureSafe Next

If your SecureSafe Classic account subscription needs to be renewed, you can keep your passwords and files by moving them to SecureSafe Next before the account closes. The move is manual, since Next is a new product built on a new account and subscription, but it takes only a few steps to complete. This guide covers passwords first, then files, and applies to personal (non-shared) safes.

If you manage a Team Safe with other members, see Moving Team Safe Data from Classic to Next for the steps that apply to Team Safes.

Step 1: Choose and set up your SecureSafe Next plan

Before you move any data, sign up for a SecureSafe Next plan. Next is organized around two modules, Pass for passwords and Files for documents, which you can subscribe to separately or together as the Bundle. Personal users typically choose Solo, while households can share access under Family. Review the current Next plans and pick the one that matches what you stored in Classic. Once your Next account is active, you are ready to bring your data over.

Step 2: Move your passwords

Passwords move through a CSV file: you export them from Classic, then import that same file into SecureSafe Pass. The whole process usually takes only a few minutes, regardless of how many passwords you have stored.

Export your passwords from Classic

  1. Log in to your SecureSafe Classic account.
  2. In the left sidebar, select Passwords.
  3. From the Overview panel on the right, select Export.
  4. Choose the separator character for your CSV file, then confirm by clicking Export.
  5. Open your device’s Download folder and locate the exported file, named something like Password_Export_2026-08-03_14-45-45.csv.
  6. Log in to SecureSafe Next and open the Profile icon in the upper right corner.
  7. Go to the Password section and select Import Passwords.
  8. Click Import Password, then drag and drop your exported CSV file into the window, or click to upload it.
  9. Click Add, then review the column mapping to confirm your data lines up correctly.
  10. Check the list of passwords, deselect any you do not want to bring over, and click Import passwords.
  11. Once the import finishes, click Go to your password manager to see your passwords in SecureSafe Pass.
  12. In SecureSafe Classic, open Files, select the files and folders you want to transfer, and click Download in the sidebar (or right-click and choose Download). If you use the Classic desktop app with synchronized folders, your files are likely already saved locally, and you can skip this step. In that case, make sure to synchronize the Desktop App again so that you are transferring the latest data.
  13. In SecureSafe Next, open the File Manager and navigate to the safe or folder where the content should live.
  14. Drag the downloaded files directly from your computer’s file explorer into the Next window. To bring over a whole folder at once, including subfolders, use Upload Folder or drag the folder itself; Next preserves the original folder structure. You can also use the new SecureSafe Next Desktop App, which also supports folder-level file synchronization.
  15. Confirm each upload completes, then check the files in Next against what you had in Classic.
  16. Once you have verified everything is in place, delete the local copies from your computer.

Note: Do not edit this file unless necessary, and if you do, save it again in CSV format. Once you have imported it into Next, delete the file, since it holds your passwords in plain text. Make sure to empty your bin as well.

Step 3: Move your files manually

There is currently no automatic transfer of files between Classic and Next, so your computer acts as the bridge between the two. In practice, this means downloading your files out of Classic and dragging them into Next.

Note: If you are moving a large number of files, working folder by folder is faster than moving files one at a time.

What’s different in Next today

Next is still catching up to some Classic capabilities. As of this writing, data inheritance, Mail-In, and the audit trail are not yet available, and file preview currently supports PDF only, with other formats opening through your device’s own applications instead. SecureSafe has these under evaluation for 2026/27, but no committed date has been published, so treat that timing as subject to change. None of this affects whether your passwords or files move over correctly; it only affects which Classic features you will need to do without in the meantime.

If you get stuck

Classic remains fully functional until your account’s expiration date, so there is no need to rush the migration in a single sitting. Once you have confirmed everything moved over correctly, we recommend closing your Classic account to avoid keeping duplicate copies of your data active in two places. If a step does not behave as described, or your export or import runs into an error, please reach out to us, and we will help you get your data across.
